Fairmount Commuter Line Suspended After Collision, Derailment
Shuttle buses are replacing service on the Fairmount line today.
BOSTON — The Fairmount commuter line train is not running today after a train collided with another one Tuesday night near South Station. MBTA officials said there were no injuries, and called it a low speed derailment, but there were serious delays as crews worked into the night on the train and replaced the train route with shuttle buses.
Officials said two trains ran into one another near South Station Tuesday night around 8 p.m., causing three train cars on the Fairmount commuter line train to derail. A shuttle bus replaced service for Fairmount Train shortly after.
The Middleborough/Lakeville, Kingston/Plymouth, and Greenbush Line trains were operating at reduced speeds near South Station.
