Man In Wheelchair Rolls Into Boston Highway Tunnel
A Good Samaritan helped rescue a man in a wheelchair who somehow made it down Boston's Prudential Tunnel on the Massachusetts Turnpike.
BOSTON — A man in a wheelchair who somehow made it down Boston's Prudential Tunnel Tuesday morning was helped by a Good Samaritan. The man was caught on a tunnel security camera rolling westbound along the right shoulder of the Massachusetts Turnpike during the morning rush at about 8 a.m. as vehicles whizzed by. An AAA tow truck driver stopped behind the man and flashed the vehicle's lights to shield him as first responders were dispatched to the scene.
The man, identified only as a 56-year-old, was not injured, according to State Police. But out of precaution police said EMS transported him to Tufts Medical Center for evaluation. It's not clear how he got on the highway.
State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said if it weren't for the tow truck driver and several concerned drivers who called 911, there could have been a different ending.

"We are grateful to the motorists who called to report the situation and to the tow driver who took steps to protect the man until first responders could arrive," Procopio said in an emailed statement.
MassDOT shared security camera footage of the Good Samaritan helping, shown above.
