Assault on Officer Suspect Fled on Foot After Route 3 Crash

Bruno Brauer is wanted for felony assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly driving a truck toward a Hingham Police Officer earlier this month.

Hingham Police are seeking information about a Brazilian man after he allegedly drove a truck at a Hingham Police Officer, crashed into another vehicle on Route 3 and fled on foot near the Weymouth/Braintree line.

A warrant for Bruno Brauer, 30, who most recently lived in Malden, lists 17 charges, including felony assault with a dangerous weapon (truck) on the officer, according to a release from the Hingham Police Department.

An officer responded to Best Chevrolet on Derby Street around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7, for a report of a truck driving with its lights off. The officer entered the gated dealership and found the truck, which was operated by a masked man.

The officer attempted to stop the truck, which backed into several cars while trying to escape.

"The truck then pulled forward and drove at a high rate of speed toward the Officer. The Officer moved out of the way to avoid being struck," reads the police statement.

After nearly striking the officer, Brauer allegedly smashed through the closed front gate of Best Chevrolet. He eventually entered Route 3 south at exit 14, crossed over the grass median onto Route 3 north. The officer ended the pursuit at that time because of safety concerns.

The truck, which did not have its headlights on, was involved in an accident on Route 3 north near the Weymouth/Braintree line. The truck rolled, but landed upright; the operator fled into the woods.

According to police, the occupants of the second car involved in the crash were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police learned that several tires were stolen from vehicles in the dealership and burglary tools were found.

Brauer was temporarily staying in a motel in Saugus at the time of the incident. He has resided in Malden, Sommerville, Medford and Everett.
