Elizabeth Tarpey, 23, lived in Hawaii and was hiking with friends on Saturday, June 22. According to KITV News, Tarpey stepped on a patch of loose soil, slipped and fell 300 feet.
After several attempts by the Honolulu Fire Department, Tarpey was rescued and taken to a trauma center. She died there a short time later.
Tarpey, a Georgia Tech graduate, worked as a business analyst at C&S Wholesale Grocers, according to the Boston Globe. She transferred from Keene, N.H. to Hawaii, about a year and a half ago.
Tarpey's family held a memorial for her in Hawaii, last week.
“Her joy, her good nature, it’s tough to put into a little box,” Tarpey's uncle and godfather Brendan McMullin, told the Globe. “Through this last several days we’ve all been together, the whole family, no one can remember any time where Liz was ever even in a sour mood.”
