Braintree Police On Scam Callers: 'Have Fun With Them'

Scam IRS calls are making their way around Braintree, police said.

BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree Police has some advise for anyone getting hit with fake IRS calls, have fun.

Braintree Police recently posted on Facebook that the town is getting hit with the scam calls. Someone is even calling the Braintree Police Department with threats to send the police after them.

So what to do when you get one of these calls? Here are three ideas from Braintree Police:

  • Play along and have some fun with them. Try and waste as much of their time as possible without giving out your real information
  • Hang up
  • Dare them to call the Braintree Police and come arrest you.

If you are unsure if the person you are talking to is a scammer, remember that the IRS never calls people , they don't accept payments in the form of gift cards, and they do not have the ability to tell police departments to arrest people.
