Braintree To Present 2023 MLK Peacemaker Award

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree is set to award the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker award this week to the town's favorite coach.

"Coach" Kerrie Doherty, who founded Superstar Sports, an organization providing sports and other activities to children with special needs, will be honored with the award at a ceremony on Thursday.

"lt has been such a privilege to work with Kerrie over the years and see first hand the joy her programs bring to everyone involved," said Mayor Charles C. Kokoros.

"Coach Kerrie's kindness, generosity and continued advocacy for our special needs community truly exemplifies the leadership shown by Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. and I can't think of a better person to be recognized as this year's Citizen of the Year."

In addition to Superstar Sports, Doherty also hosts the town's "Fancy Formal".

The Peacemaker Award was established to honor civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. and is awarded annually to a citizen of Braintree "who embodies Doctor King's spirit of giving and activism," according to town officials.

This year's ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall on Thursday. The Braintree High School choir will perform.
