Braintree Recreation Announces Summer Programs For 2023

Summer programs run from the end of June through early August in 2023. Here's what's available, and what to know.

BRAINTREE, MA — Mayor Charles Kokoros and the Braintree Recreation Department have announced programs and activities for the upcoming summer.

Summer Programs begin on June 26 running through Aug. 4. There will be no activities held on July 3 or July 4.

  • Sports clinic (ages 8-13) at the Daughraty Gym at 538 Washington Street. Boys and girls, who will be ages 8 to 13 during the week in which they are enrolled, will enjoy different group activities each day, including but not limited to sports, games, arts and crafts and more! Registration will be limited to a maximum of 3 weeks per child. The registration fee will be $225 per week for each child ($140 for July 4th week)
  • Kiddos clinic (ages 5-7) at the Hollis School at 538 Washington Street. Age appropriate group recreational activities are organized at the Recreation Department’s summertime Kiddo’s Clinic. This is the department’s 20th summer of kiddo’s Clinic and it promises to be our best year yet. Don’t let your child miss out as registration rosters fill up very quickly. Registration will be limited to a maximum of 3 weeks per child. The registration fee will be $210 for each child ($140 for July 4th week)
  • Field Trip clinic (ages 8-13) leaving from the Braintree Recreation offices at 74 Pond Street. The Field Trippers Clinic will be offered to kids who are interested in taking day trips to fun and exciting destinations throughout New England. Due to the popularity of this program participants will be limited to one week. (If a child is registered for more than one week they will be removed from the program entirely). This program will be held the weeks of June 26th, July 10th, July 17th, July 24th, and July 31st. Field Trip Clinic will not be held during the week of July 4th. Registration for this will take place online. The registration fee will be $275 for each child.
  • Summertime special needs day activity program which provides an organized healthy recreational program for Braintree residents who have specific special needs. Participants in the program must be a minimum age of 5 and a maximum age of 22 to be eligible. The program will be based at 74 Pond Street and will operate Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 2:30pm beginning June 26th. Registration forms will be available in the Recreation Office starting Tuesday, April 18th and must be completed and on file at the Recreation Office on or before Monday, June 12th. (No on-line registration for this program). Cost is $450 for the six week program.
  • Neighborhood organized play from June 26th through August 4th neighborhood playgrounds will be staffed on weekdays from 9am-3pm (weather permitting) with organized play counselors. Neighborhood children are welcome to drop-in for this free program. A list of staffed playgrounds will be published in late May. There will be no staff at the playgrounds on July 3rd or 4th.
  • The waterfront at Sunset Lake will be staffed with lifeguards and gate attendants beginning Saturday, June 24th. Parking in the Sunset Lake parking lot will be restricted to Braintree residents only.
  • The Petersen Splash Pad at Watson Park will be open daily from 10am-6pm starting Saturday, July 1st until Sunday, August 27th.
  • “Free Family Movie Nights” will be held on Thursday, July 13th and Thursday, July 20th at French’s Common next to Braintree Town Hall. In the event of rain movies will be held inside the Town Hall auditorium. Movie titles will be announced later in the spring.
  • Nelson Chin Summer Concert Series sponsored by Mayor Kokoros and Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD) This seven-week series will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm on the beach at Sunset lake. The series kick-offs on Tuesday, June 27th and ends on Tuesday, August 8th. This year we will feature a wide variety of groups including jazz, rock, big band era, Irish folk, and Beatles tribute. The concert on Tuesday July 11th includes a free cookout! (The concert the week of July 4th will be held on Wednesday, July 5th)
