Braintree Woman Charged with OUI After Saturday Accident

A 47-year-old Braintree resident was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol on June 8.

Mary Beath, 47 of Braintree, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, failure to keep within marked lanes and operating an unregistered motor vehicle, after allegedly crashing into a Weymouth resident's vehicle at the intersection of Liberty and Grove Streets on June 8.

On Saturday evening, police received a call from a motorist that was following an erratic operator, traveling north on Grove Street from Weymouth.

According to a statement from Police Chief Russell Jenkins, officers were advised that the erratic vehicle crashed into a second vehicle in the southbound lane of Grove Street.

Witnesses reported Beath failed to stop for a red light, crossed the center line and caused the accident. The Weymouth man operating the vehicle was transported to South Shore Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officer Brian Eng arrived at the scene and noted Beath smelled of alcohol. The officer performed sobriety tests and Beath was placed under arrest.
