A Major TV And Film Studio Could Be Coming To Massachusetts: Here's Where

Boston-based developer RISE plans to build an expansive production campus on the Banner Park site in Braintree.

BRAINTREE, MA — In a few years' time, it's possible that Braintree residents could be seeing television and movie productions on-screen that were made in their hometown.

That's thanks to Boston-based developer RISE reportedly striking a deal to build a sweeping movie and TV production campus at Braintree's Banner Park.

The company plans to build out the 123-acre site complete with sound stages, pre and post-production bays and offices fit for Hollywood.

According to a post from Bldup, the project, when complete, would create 800 union jobs for local residents and generate $8 million in tax revenue plus $1.5 million in permit fees over the next 10 years in Braintree.

"The Banner Park site has been underutilized since the Lottery’s relocation," said Mayor Charles Kokoros, in a statement, referencing the former tenant at the site in the Massachusetts Lottery.

He continued:

“The Town of Braintree has had great success with film projects as a temporary use of the Banner Park site. The industry feedback has been positive, and we now have a great opportunity to expand the film industry operations with a permanent location. This significant economic development project will enhance our commercial tax base and create temporary construction and permanent jobs in our community. The Banner Park team is committing 30 acres for conservation to expand public access to the recreational trail network and providing our town's first dog park that contributes to our residents' enjoyment. RISE is a great partner with a vision that aligns with the town’s plans to continue to bring exciting opportunities like this to Braintree. We look forward to working with them on this project.”

Though Braintree will be reaping the benefits of the tax revenues, job creation and permitting fees, Boston looms large over the location decision.

Banner Park is just 17 miles from Boston Logan Airport and 14 miles from Downtown Boston.
