License Commissioners Hand Out Liquor License Suspensions
Bates Bar and Grill and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Washington Street were both given a suspended one-day suspension.

BRAINTREE, MA — Two Braintree businesses were issued liquor license suspensions by the board of license commissioners this week.
Bates Bar and Grill on Commercial Street and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Washington Street were both given a suspended one-day suspension, according to the Patriot Ledger. The suspensions will not have to be served if there are no violations for six months.
The Bates suspension stems from a July 13 incident where a driver was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor while the VFW suspension resulted from a June 30 altercation with a guest who had eight to 10 beers during the day.

Harry Sarras, the co-owner of Bates, said the person in question had only one drink and left, with the arrest coming 45 minutes after the drink was purchased.
At the VFW, the bar has remained closed and will not open until a new policy is created.
