BRAINTREE, MA — Relief was made available for Braintree renters struggling to get by amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Mayor Charles Kokoros said he established a $100,000 emergency rental assistance fund to assist tenants who have lost their jobs or otherwise suffered income losses as a result of COVID-19 related-closures.

Kokoros said the Town will partner with Metro Housing Boston to administer the Program, which will provide financial assistance to eligible households who owe back rent or are unable to make their next scheduled rent payment and are at risk of eviction.

"With the eviction moratorium scheduled to end on October 17, 2020, it is critical to make assistance available to support Braintree residents who are at-risk of losing their housing," Kokoros said.

Up to $4,000 in assistance is available for income qualifying households.

"The goal is to provide housing stability for as long as possible with these funds," Kokoros said.
