New Grocer Coming To Braintree. Will It Finally Be Amazon Fresh?

Could the long-lingering project have new life after a new company purchased the property, or will Braintree see another chain move in?

BRAINTREE, MA — There was a brief time when Braintree was supposed to have the first Amazon Fresh grocer in Massachusetts.

That was in 2021 and, now in 2025, that store remains in limbo. It still is, but does a recent real estate transaction make an opening more likely?

Waterstone Properties Group recently acquired 86,000 sq. ft. of space in the Marketplace at Braintree development, a deal worth $30 million, according to the company.

It means that the company now owns the spaces that Nordstrom Rack and Ulta Beauty occupy, and also the space in between the two that Amazon Fresh was pitched for back in 2021.

In a news release, Waterstone said that a still-to-be-announced national grocery concept would be going into the space, but didn't confirm which chain that would be.
