BURLINGTON, MA — The Annual Town Election took place in Burlington this past Saturday, but it's not quite over.

Though official results have been posted by the Town Clerk, one race remains unresolved.

In Precinct 4, the race for Town Meeting members had six open spots. There were four names on the ballot, who were elected: Karen Cooper (263 votes), Michael Proulx (252 votes), Schiffon Wong (252 votes) and Reid Cooper (235 votes). All are incumbents.

The fifth spot went to write-in Bill Lisano (4 votes). However, there was a tie for the sixth spot between write-ins Ellen Ferguson (2 votes) and Kevin Spielberger (2 votes).

In order to determine the winner of the sixth spot, the remaining Town Meeting members from Precinct 4 will gather at 6 p.m. Monday in the basement meeting room of the Town Hall Annex. There, they will vote to break the tie.

That vote is just one of two orders of business for the Town Meeting members during the Monday session.

According to Town Clerk Amy Warfield, since the ballot was released, Town Meeting member Joan Hastings has decided to retire from Town Meeting. Hastings was the last of the original members from 1972, according to Warfield.

Hastings' vacated seat will be on the ballot next year, Warfield said. But during Monday's session, the Town Meeting members will be voting for somebody to fill the seat for one year.

"Those who wish to be appointed to fill such vacancy, until the next Town Election, should contact the remaining Town Meeting members of the Precinct for which they seek election, for the purpose of having their names placed in nomination," Warfield said in a statement.

A list of Town Meeting members is available online.
