Burlington Library Launches New 24/7 Pickup System
The Holds Hub system is a physical locker where library patrons can pickup reserved items at any time of day.

BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington Library patrons now have options to pick up reserved library items on a 24/7 basis via a new library “Holds Hub” system, Library Director Michael Wick announced last week.
The system is a physical locker similar to Amazon pickup lockers seen at various locations. It comes as the Burlington Library has retired its previous curbside pickup program, according to Wick.
Patrons can select “Holds Hub” as their pickup option when reserving an item. They will receive a unique code by email or text when their reserved item is available for pickup. That code will then allow them to access a locker compartment with their item, as noted in Wick’s announcement.

Patrons can also access their items in the locker via the Smiota app on their phone.
Burlington has added its Holds Hub with funding support from the Friends of the Burlington Public Library and Barbara Del Duca via the Del Duca Fund.

Wick’s announcement called the lockers “an evolution” of library services following curbside pickup.
"This tool is a tremendous step forward in our ability to serve patrons and meet their needs," Wick said. "While we were unable to continue our curbside pickup service, we believe the locker will better meet patrons' needs by providing an automated system that is not bound by the library's normal business hours."
