Burlington Rallies To Support Women Hit By Car In Crosswalk

BURLINGTON, MA – Two Burlington women are continuing their recoveries after suffering serious injuries in an accident at the intersection of Francis Wyman Road and Cedar Street in town on June 5, Boston 25 reports.
They’ve been supported along the way by community members seeking to raise money through various events and efforts.
Dawn Mooney and Maura Gildea were struck and thrown through the air while walking in a crosswalk at the Francis Wyman and Cedar Street intersection, according to Boston 25.

As Mooney and Gildea recover, the station reports that the driver is facing multiple charges including negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
Efforts to support Mooney and Gildea have taken multiple forms. Among them, a GoFundMe campaign launched after the crash had raised $50,000 as of Friday to help offset recovery costs for the pair.

The group Burlington Womenade has separately run its own fundraising efforts for Mooney and Gildea. It is now planning another fundraiser at the Friendly Toast restaurant on Aug. 26.
