BURLINGTON, MA - Burlington will celebrate the Halloween season just shy of Halloween itself later this month as its planned Spooktacular event returns at Simonds Park.

The event will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Simonds Park. It will feature candy crane drops for children in four age categories alongside other attractions including a "Spooky Walk" through the forest at Simonds Park, as noted in Burlington Parks and Recreation Department announcements in recent weeks.

Guests are invited to come to the event in costume.

The department, which organizes Spooktacular, is rolling out changes this year particularly around its candy drop event. After previous concerns about chaotic moments at candy drops in past years, officials are now requiring pre-registration to participate in the scramble for Halloween candy.

Officials are further limiting access to this year’s candy drops to Burlington residents only.

“This year will be a COMPLETELY different experience,” the department wrote in a message on social media late last month.

Residents can register for the candy drop here.

As registration for the candy drop is ongoing, the Parks and Recreation Department also recently promoted a contest around its Spooky Walk attraction at Spooktacular.

Organizers are calling on area businesses and organizations to decorate their own 10-foot square space with a family friendly Halloween themed scene along the Spooky Walk route. Both a panel of judges and event participants will weigh in to choose a winning scene.

The businesses or organizations with first and second place honors will each win free sponsorship opportunities at Burlington Parks and Recreation Department events over the next year.

Interested participants in the Spooky Walk contest should register via the form here.
