Burlington's Lahey Hospital Announces Hiring Of New President
Dr. Susan Moffatt-Bruce is a cardiothoracic surgeon and research scientist with an extensive background in healthcare leadership.

BURLINGTON, MA — Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) in Burlington has announced that Dr. Susan Moffatt-Bruce has been hired as the hospital's new president.
Moffatt-Bruce succeeds Dr. David Longworth, who retired as president of LHMC this past December. Dr. Tim Liesching, chief medical officer at LHMC, served as the interim president prior to Moffatt-Bruce's arrival.
Moffatt-Bruce is a cardiothoracic surgeon and research scientist with an extensive background in healthcare leadership.

Most recently, Moffatt-Bruce was the chief executive officer of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, located in Ottawa. While working in that capacity, Moffatt-Bruce also served as the CEO of Royal College International and was a faculty member of the Department of Surgery and a professor at the University of Ottawa.
"I am honored to join an organization filled with talented, esteemed colleagues who put patients first," Moffatt-Bruce said about her decision to join LHMC. "I look forward to building partnerships across the medical center and beyond to continue Lahey's reputation of excellence in patient care, innovation and learning."

Prior to working for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Moffatt-Bruce led University Hospital, a 700-bed academic medical center and flagship patient care facility at The Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Moffatt-Bruce previously served as the OSU Wexner Medical Center's first chief quality and patient safety officer.
Moffatt-Bruce has a bachelor's degree from McGill University in Montreal, and she completed medical school and her residency in general surgery at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
After that, Moffatt-Bruce received a PhD in transplant immunology at the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom, and completed her cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Stanford University.
Additionally, Moffatt-Bruce earned a Master of Business Operational Excellence and an Executive Master of Business Administration at the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State.
"Dr. Moffatt-Bruce's vast clinical and academic expertise and administrative leadership experience will further strengthen Lahey Hospital & Medical Center's ability to deliver exceptional care, driven by clinical collaboration and innovative technology," said Michael Rowan, executive vice president for hospital and ambulatory services at Beth Israel Lahey Health, which includes LHMC.
Rowan continued: "We are confident (Moffatt-Bruce's) accomplished background and proven talents will allow us to continue meeting the diverse health needs of our patients and the communities we serve."
Rowan also paid tribute to those who preceded Moffatt-Bruce as hospital president, both on a full-time and interim basis.
"We also want to express our sincere thanks to Dr. David Longworth for his leadership as LHMC's president for the past four years and before that as chief medical officer," Rowan said. "We are grateful to Dr. Tim Liesching for serving as president in an interim capacity until Dr. Moffatt-Bruce's arrival and know he will continue to play an instrumental role in ensuring that we provide extraordinary care to our patients as Lahey's chief medical officer."
