Burlington's Lahey Hospital, UMass Chan Get Medical School Campus OK
Lahey and UMass Chan's plans for a regional campus in Burlington have been approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington's Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and Worcester-based UMass Chan Medical School have received approval for a new regional medical school campus in Burlington, the organizations announced jointly on Thursday.
Lahey, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, and UMass Chan announced plans for the new campus in August, and sought certification from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education — which licenses all medical schools in the U.S. and Canada — in December.
That approval came through this week.

The Burlington campus will begin accepting students in August 2024. The first class will have about 25 students, the organizations said.
"Lahey Hospital & Medical Center has a long history as a teaching hospital and is committed to training the next generation of leaders alongside our world-class experts," said Dr. Susan Moffatt-Bruce, president of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. "The UMass Chan-Lahey campus will help further our mission of delivering extraordinary care for the patients we serve by focusing on training leaders who are ready to address and advance solutions for the future challenges in healthcare."

According to a release put out by Lahey and UMass Chan, the new program will be called LEAD@Lahey, which stands for lead, empower, advocate and deliver.
The UMass Chan-Lahey regional campus will emphasize leadership, health systems science and interprofessional education, the release stated.
"The new regional campus will build on UMass Chan and Lahey's shared vision to educate future generations of physicians grounded in evidence-based, patient-centered, multi-specialty and interprofessional practice, and to meet the diverse needs of our communities," UMass Chan Chancellor Dr. Michael Collins said.
In 2015, UMass Chan launched a regional campus using a similar model to the current Lahey plans at Baystate Health in Springfield.
Dr. Terence Flotte, provost of UMass Chan and dean of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine has appointed Dr. Anne Mosenthal, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center's chief academic officer, as the inaugural regional executive dean of UMass Chan-Lahey.
"I am honored to serve as the first dean of UMass Chan-Lahey, where our students will benefit from learning in the unique Lahey environment of collaborative, relationship-centered care," Mosenthal said. "We are pleased that the new campus has been accredited and look forward to welcoming our first students."
