WESTON, MA — Burlington native Michael Curtis has proven to be a dual threat for the Regis College swimming and diving team.

A first-year student, Curtis competes in both swimming and diving, though he truly excels in the latter. This week, Curtis was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.

At Saturday's dual meet against Elms College — which Regis won 89-12 — Curtis posted a five-dive score of 113.90 in the first one-meter diving session of the day.

In the second one-meter diving event of the day, Curtis scored a 161.65, breaking the single-session school record of 161.45, which he had recorded against Saint Joseph College on Nov. 19.

Curtis' 11-dive score of 275.55 was just six points off his best 11-dive score of the season, which was recorded against St. Joseph College in November.

During that November meet, Curtis' 11-dive score of 281.20 broke a school record that had been set 13 years earlier.

"Michael is a great kid and a hard worker. I am so happy for him to receive the weekly GNAC award," Regis swimming and diving head coach Diana Matthews said.

Of course, Curtis' hard work is not limited to the diving board.

On Saturday against Elms College, Curtis competed in the 1650 freestyle, which he swam in 23:45.43. Curtis was the only competitor in the event.

Curtis has proven adept at swimming both distance and sprint events. During the Nov. 19 meet, Curtis competed in the 50 freestyle, where he finished fourth (25.59) out of five competitors.
