Merrill earned the opportunity by edging out the competition during the fourth annual New England Revolution National Anthem Auditions and making it to the live final showdown on March 9 at Lansdowne Pub in Boston. The event was part of the club's official 2016 Pub Tour presented by Budweiser. The guest judges - New England Revolution players Charlie Davies and Jose Goncalves, and Sideline Reporter Jessie Coffield – were tasked with selecting three winners. Alex Corddry of 7News Boston served as emcee.
