Lahey Hospital No. 111 In Newsweek's Best Hospitals In U.S. Rankings

7 MA hospitals were ahead of Lahey, with Boston's Massachusetts General (No. 3) and Brigham And Women's Hospital (No. 7) in the top 10.

BURLINGTON, MA — Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington was ranked No. 111 in the new ranking of the best hospitals in the U.S. by Newsweek.

The World's Best Hospitals ranking comes after Newsweek and the data firm Statista evaluated 2,300 hospitals in 80 different countries. Hospitals also were ranked within each country.

According to Newsweek, a global board of medical experts compiled the list based on four data sources: an online survey from medical experts, results from patient surveys, hospital quality metrics, and a PROM (patient-reported outcome measures) implementation survey.

Each hospital received a score and its ranking was based on that score. Lahey Hospital & Medical Center scored a 65.47 percent.

Eight hospitals in Massachusetts were ranked among the top 111 in the U.S., including: Massachusetts General in Boston (No.3, 92.27%), Brigham And Women's Hospital in Boston (No. 7, 84.79%), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston (No. 22, 76.60%), Tufts Medical Center in Boston (No. 41, 70.95%), Brigham And Women's Faulkner Hospital in Boston (No. 51, 70.42%), UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester (No. 80, 67.32%), Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton (No. 85, 66.94%) and Lahey.

On a global scale, Mass General (No. 3) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (No. 18) were ranked among the top 20 worldwide.

Other Massachusetts hospitals on the U.S. list were: Southcoast Hospital Group in Fall River (No. 271), Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge (No. 311), Saint Anne's Hospital in Fall River (No. 314), Winchester Hospital in Winchester (No. 334), Boston Medical Center in Boston (No. 341), North Shore Medical Center in Salem (No. 370) and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth in Plymouth (No. 385).

In January, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center was ranked among the 50 best hospitals in 36 eligible states and Washington D.C. in rankings done by Healthgrades.

In fact, Lahey was the only hospital in Massachusetts to be ranked among the top 50 in those 2023 America's Best Hospitals rankings.

To determine the rankings, Healthgrades — a marketplace that helps people find doctors and hospitals — evaluated clinical performance for nearly 4,500 hospitals across more than 31 of the most common procedures and conditions. Healthgrades also measured the hospitals across 18 key specialty areas.

In the rankings, Lahey was named among America's 100 Best for: critical care, gastrointestinal care, gastrointestinal surgery, pulmonary care and stroke care.

Lahey also received the Excellence Award for cranial neurosurgery and neurosciences.

Two other Massachusetts hospitals made the top 250 in Healthgrades' 2023 America's Best Hospitals rankings: Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence and Salem Hospital in Salem.
