Sally's Apizza Will Open 2 MA Restaurants; Burlington 'Target Market'
The famous New Haven pizzeria opened its first Massachusetts store last year and plans to add at least two more locations.

BURLINGTON, MA — If you're looking for that charred-crust, New Haven-style pizza that some claim makes it the pizza capital of the world, you'll soon be able to find it in two more Massachusetts cities: Concord and Dorchester.
Sally's Apizza is continuing its expansion into Massachusetts and may also expand to Burlington. A spokesperson for the pizzeria said Burlington is among places where "Sally's is actively and/or interested in exploring but they are not confirmed."
Burlington is among those listed as "Target Northeast Development Markets" in a Sally's document along with several more locations in Connecticut, New York, and Rhode Island.

The Concord location will open on Route 2 in the former Papa Razzi Trattoria space, and the Dorchester location will be in the South Bay lifestyle center, with both opening in 2025, according to a statement from Sally's. It's not yet known where the Burlington location could be.
Founded by Salvatore "Sally" Consiglio in 1938, Sally's has often earned recognition as one of the best pizzerias in the country.

Sally's announced the opening of two Massachusetts restaurants last year. The Woburn restaurant opened in December and a Boston Seaport store is in development. The Woburn restaurant is "already one of the chain's busiest locations," according to a Sally's statement.
The additions are part of Sally's aggressive expansion strategy. In Connecticut, Sally's opened a Stamford location in 2021 and a Fairfield location in 2022, with plans to open more restaurants in Wethersfield, Norwalk, and Newington. They also have target development markets in several Florida cities like Miami and Boca Raton.

New Haven-style pizza is distinguished by its charred crust, with the pie intentionally left longer in the hot brick oven.
“We hand-craft authentic New Haven pizza in custom designed ovens using the original recipes,” reads a post on Sally's website. “Famous for our distinctive tomato sauce and chewy, crispy crust with an iconic oven-kissed char, Sally’s draws pizza fans from around the world.”
Many dignitaries, athletes, and stars have dined at Sally's over the years, including Frank Sinatra, Bill Clinton, Kathleen Turner, Don Rickles, and Jimmy Durante among others. The restaurant was also featured in the full-length documentary "Pizza: A Love Story."
In addition to pizza, Sally's will have an eclectic menu of appetizers and entrees as well as "an extensive bar program."
Sally's sons, Ricky and Bobby Consiglio, are still part of the business.
Sally's Apizza in Woburn is open daily and serves lunch and dinner.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Sally's will be opening a Burlington restaurant. Burlington is a target market for Sally's and only the Dorchester and Concord locations are confirmed.
