BURLINGTON, MA — Democratic House of Representatives candidate Timmy Sullivan picked up another endorsement this week, receiving backing from the Sierra Club less than a month before this year’s primary elections in September.

Sullivan is challenging 21st Middlesex District incumbent Ken Gordon in the primary. The 21st Middlesex District will include Burlington, Bedford and portions of Lexington beginning with this year's election cycle following redistricting.

Sullivan grew up in Burlington and currently works as the Executive Director of PHENOM - Public Higher Education Network of Massachusetts, a nonprofit focused on expanding access to education.

“I am so happy to be endorsed by the Sierra Club for my track record and vision on climate policy!” Sullivan said in a message on social media on Monday following this latest endorsement. “We have one of the greatest opportunities ahead of us to transition our Commonwealth and our district to 100% renewable energy– providing reliable, more affordable, and green energy for everyone.”

“This is an important election and I am so excited to have the support of the Sierra Club in getting us to the finish line!” Sullivan continued.

The Sierra Club focuses on environmental advocacy. Its Political Committee Chair, Mimi Locke, praised Sullivan in a statement following this week's endorsement.

“Sierra Club is proud to endorse Timmy Sullivan for State Representative in the 21st Middlesex district," Locke said. "A strong advocate for the rapid transition to 100% renewable energy, Sullivan is exactly the kind of environmental champion we need in office and we encourage voters in 21st Middlesex to vote for him.”

This week’s boost comes a matter of days after Sullivan earned the endorsement of Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts on Aug. 1.

Incorruptible Massachusetts, which bills itself as an organization focused progressive legislation and “fighting anti-democratic concentration of power in the State House,” previously endorsed Sullivan in June.

This year’s Democratic primary is set for Sept. 6.

Early voting starts on Aug. 27
