CANTON, MA — David Clough, a former six-year member of the Canton Finance
Committee and a longtime advocate for municipal transparency, has officially announced his candidacy for the Canton Select Board. Clough is running on a platform&nbsp;focused on fiscal accountability, tax fairness, and restoring public trust in town&nbsp;leadership.



A Canton resident for more than a decade, Clough brings a unique perspective to local&nbsp;government as the owner of eVacuumStore.com, a successful national retail business.

His experience managing a high-volume operation—balancing logistics, customer&nbsp;service, and financial discipline—has shaped his practical, results-oriented approach to&nbsp;governance.


“I am running for Select Board because I believe Canton deserves a government that is&nbsp;efficient, transparent, and accountable,” said Clough. “Through my work in business&nbsp;and my years on the Finance Committee, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to&nbsp;account for every dollar. I want to bring that same common-sense, performance-driven&nbsp;mindset to the Select Board.”




A Record of Principled Leadership&nbsp;Clough’s public service record reflects a consistent focus on protecting taxpayers and&nbsp;improving town operations. Key elements of his experience and platform include:


• Government Oversight: As a member of the Finance Committee, Clough was&nbsp;a consistent advocate for budget discipline, responsible long-term planning, and&nbsp;careful oversight of capital projects and major procurements.


• Championing Taxpayer Relief: Clough has been a leading voice for protecting&nbsp;Canton’s most vulnerable residents, including seniors on fixed incomes and&nbsp;young families—from the effects of rising property tax valuations. He has urged&nbsp;the Select Board to adopt the maximum allowable residential tax shift to ensure&nbsp;commercial properties contribute their fair share. He has also supported targeted&nbsp;relief measures such as small-business tax exemptions to help sustain local,&nbsp;independent businesses.






• Independent Advocacy for Transparency: Serving as Vice Chair of the&nbsp;Police Audit Committee, Clough has advocated for comprehensive and&nbsp;independent reviews of departmental policies, emphasizing that transparency&nbsp;and accountability are essential to maintaining public trust.
