Battle of Bunker Hill Day Ceremony Today

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on June 17 in Charlestown.

1. Mostly sunny: Today will be mostly sunny with a slight chance of showers, according to the National Weather Service. The evening will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and patchy fog after 5 a.m. High: 80, Low: 63.

2. Battle of Bunker Hill Day: Join members of the James W. Conway American Legion Post 26, the Bunker Hill Monument Association and National Park Service in commemorating the Battle of Bunker Hill today at 11 a.m. at Monument Square. Also today, St. Francis de Sales Church (313 Bunker Hill St.) will hold an ecumenical prayer service at 10 a.m., which is open to all. And the Bunker Hill Monument Association will hold its annual meeting at 1 p.m. at the Bunker Hill Museum (43 Monument Square). 

3. Coffee talk: Rep. Eugene O’Flaherty holds office hours every first and third Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to noon at Zume's Coffee House (223 Main St.).

4. Read to Seamus: Children can drop by the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) on Mondays in June from 4:30-5:30 p.m. to read to trained therapy dog Seamus. For more information, call 617-242-1248.

5. Salute to the Sea Services: The USS Constitution Museum in the Charlestown Navy Yard (2 Constitution Center) will host a “Salute to the Sea Services” gala and awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 26 from 6-8 p.m. It is an evening to honor the individuals who have chosen to serve and to support America’s maritime heritage.
