Charlestown Boys & Girls Club Hires New Director

The Charlestown Boys and Girls Club recently welcomed a new executive director, Pete Nash, who began his new role on Feb. 4.

Prior to accepting his position within the organization, Nash served as the director of Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston’s Shared Space Clubs. 

“Pete shares BGCB’s deep commitment to meeting the needs of the community’s youth and families and understands the important role the club has played in Charlestown since it opened in 1893,” said Josh Kraft, Nicholas President and CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston. “He has the knowledge of our organization coupled with the skills and experience necessary to ensure stability and high level programming of club operations continues.”

In his most recent position as director of Shared Space Clubs, Nash was responsible for the oversight and operation of five smaller clubs located within a variety of places including schools and community centers throughout the city to ensure they provided innovative programming to members.

“It is that same innovative programming that I, along with the committed Charlestown Club staff, will continue to offer the children of this community so that they can achieve academic success, live healthy lifestyles and build good character and citizenship,” Nash said.

“I am deeply honored to have been selected for this leadership role,” he continued. “I look forward to working closely with the staff, Advisory Board members and families to ensure that the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club continues to provide such high quality after-school programming in the community.”

Nash also worked as the director of education for three years at the South Boston Club before returning to his native England to earn his Master's in Youth Work from De Montfort University in Leicester UK. He is excited about becoming a part of the Charlestown Club and community and appreciates its historic role in the organization.

The search committee—which included several Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston senior managers and club executive directors as well as a representative from the Charlestown Club’s Advisory Board—evaluated each candidate on a number of criteria including experience in youth development, staff management, budget management, facilities management, strategic vision and understanding of the mission of Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston.

In addition to a new executive director, the Charlestown Club has appointed John Killoran, previously director of operations at the club, as director of community partnerships. In addition to providing continued operational support at the club, he will serve as the club’s liaison to local businesses, schools, sports leagues, housing developments and other youth programs.

This new and unique position will also provide support to the Local Advisory Board in the Charlestown community fundraising efforts as well as provide continued operational support and direction for the club.

Since its founding in 1893, Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston has been helping young people, especially those who need us most, build strong character and realize their full potential as responsible citizens and leaders. BGCB does this by providing: a safe haven filled with hope and opportunity, ongoing relationships with caring adults, and life-enhancing programs in six core program areas.

BGCB serves more than 15,000 young people ages 6-18 in 10 clubs, and through Camp Harbor View and YouthConnect. BGCB is an affiliate of Boys and Girls Clubs of America and The United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.
