Charlestown Man Arraigned After Stealing Sword from Historic Monument

The 40-year-old allegedly took the sword from the 54th Massachusetts memorial on Friday.

A Charlestown man was arraigned Friday on a charge of vandalizing a historic monument.

Delvin Dixon, 40, of Charlestown was arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court on the charge for allegedly prying the sword from the memorial to the 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry and its commanding officer, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, on the Boston Common Friday morning.

Prosecutors requested $500 cash bail and an order to stay away from the Common, according to a recent press release.

Dixon was released on his own recognizance with the stay-away order.
