Late-Night Work to Close Boston's Tip O'Neill Tunnel Tuesday
The northbound side of Interstate-93 at Exit 16 will be completely closed starting Tuesday night at 11 p.m.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s maintenance schedule will require complete closures of the I-93 northbound Tip O’Neill Tunnel at Exit 16 near Southampton Street.
The tunnel will close on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 11 p.m. It will remain closed through Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 5 a.m.

I-93 northbound traffic will be detoured off the highway at Exit 16 at Southampton Street onto surface streets and allowed to re-enter I-93 Northbound at the Haymarket onramp from Cross Street at New Sudbury Street. Traffic destined for Route 1 will continue to City Square in Charlestown to access the ramp from Rutherford Avenue to the Tobin Bridge.
Maintenance crews, contractors, along with State and Boston Police will begin setup for the closure on Tuesday evening.

MassDOT encourages drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to minimize delays. Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while traveling along the detour routes.
Work to be performed includes roadway sweeping, wall and sign washing.
