Mass. Gaming Commission Resumes Casino Talks; Wynn, Mohegan Sun to Comment

The discussions were expected to resume Tuesday and Wednesday if necessary.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission resumed discussions this week on whether to issue a casino license to Wynn Resorts, which is looking to build a casino in Everett across the bridge from Charlestown’s Sullivan Square, or Mohegan Sun, which is eyeing space in Revere.

The MGC thus far has rated Wynn’s casino plan higher than that of Mohegan Sun in several areas such as financing and economic development, according to the Boston Herald.

The commission reportedly suspended last week’s discussion to give the two companies enough time to respond to varying terms and conditions, with it asking Wynn to consider a redesign of the exterior of its resort in Everett, according to CBS Boston, and representatives from both casino companies were expected to respond and comment to the MGC on Tuesday, according to the Herald.

The MGC is set to meet through Wednesday, according to massgaming.com.

The proposed Wynn casino has thus far caused debate among Charlestown residents and officials, with the MGC previously deeming Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts “suitable” to obtain a casino license in eastern Massachusetts. About 60 percent of the casino’s estimated traffic would come by way of Sullivan Square in Charlestown.
