Surveillance video showed the shooter making his getaway in a gray Chevrolet Malibu, according to the release, and ballistics evidence was processed by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab and shared with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"Investigators, working with the ATF, were able to link the ballistics evidence collected in Chelmsford to a specific firearm," the release said. "A lengthy investigation subsequently identified Norbert as the registered owner of the firearm during the time of the incident in Chelmsford. Norbert was also the registered owner of a Chevrolet Malibu during that timeframe."
