CHELMSFORD, MA —The Chelmsford varsity girls soccer team has announced it will be hosting a Youth Soccer Clinic for kids in 2nd grade through 8th grade next month.

The event, which is open to girls and boys, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 25 at the high school's Graniteville Fields. The cost of the clinic is $35 and registration is available online.

Proceeds from the event will help support the Chelmsford girls soccer team's volunteer assistant coach and pay for some other needs within the program, according to Lions' first-year head coach Kristina Kea.

The clinic is the brainchild of Kea, though the event will be run by the varsity players, who will coach and play with the youth players, Kea told Patch.

"I thought the clinic would be a good way to fundraise, while also getting girls in town excited about soccer. Hopefully, it will get them to come to support our games and build a connection with the team," Kea said.

Kea added: "This also gives the players on my team a chance to engage with the community and remember how far they've come in their soccer careers."

Kea said the clinic will include passing and dribbling drills, fun games and scrimmages.

Attendees are asked to wear shin guards and bring a soccer ball, water and a snack to the clinic. They also should bring checks made payable to the Chelmsford Boosters Club.

"I am looking forward to bringing Chelmsford's youth soccer players together with our varsity players," Kea said. "I am hoping that this experience increases interest in soccer in Chelmsford, especially amongst females, and gets them excited about coming to support our games and becoming part of the team one day."

The Chelmsford varsity girls soccer team is scheduled to open its 2022 season at 6 p.m. Sept. 5 at Lowell. The Lions' home opener is at 5 p.m. on Sept. 8 against Lawrence.
