Chelmsford Students Outpace State Average on MCAS

Statewide achievement increased on 12 of the 17 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) tests that took place this spring, with Chelmsford’s scores outpacing the state average in every category.

On all 17 tests, Chelmsford outperformed the state average of students testing “proficient” or higher, ranging from a two point advantage in Grade 10 Science and Technology/Engineering to near twenty point gaps over the state average at lower grade levels.

Chelmsford also fared well in comparison to its 2012 test results, achieving comparable scores in all areas except for Grade 8 Science and Technology/Engineering, where “proficient” and “advanced” students decreased by 13 percent.

Ultimately, Chelmsford students were superior to their average peers across the state on almost every portion of the tests except for a few questions like this one on algebraic thinking and this one on prime and composite numbers.
