CHELMSFORD, MA — All Chelmsford voters who choose to vote in person for townwide elections on June 2, will be voting at the same polling place, town officials announced Thursday.

"ALL precincts will be voting in the gym at the Town Offices, 50 Billerica Road instead of their usual polling location," town officials said.

But the town clerk is urging residents to take advantage of the State's allowance for all voters to mail their ballots in, instead to ensure both voters and election workers stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

With municipal elections across Massachusetts already delayed to help slow the spread of the new coronavirus, the Secretary of State's office has said any registered voter in Massachusetts can request a mail-in ballot for elections being held on or before June 30.

Last month, Chelmsford Selectmen unanimously approved delaying the annual election to June 2 from May 5 under authority granted from the state in an effort to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.

Requests for mailed ballots must be in writing and include your name, address and a signature. Mailed ballot requests can be emailed to townclerk@chelmsfordma.gov or call the Clerk’s Office 978-250-5205. Please allow enough time for your ballot to be mailed out and returned before the close of polls on Election Day.

Alternatively, you can apply for an absentee ballot.

The date on the ballot reflects the original election date of April 7, 2020. The State Elections Division is allowing the use of all materials with the original election date.

The deadline to register to vote for the local election is Friday, May 22, at 8 pm.

According to the town if a voter’s census year is not up to date, that voter will appear on the "Inactive List" and will need to complete paperwork and show identification before voting. Voters are strongly encouraged to either contact the Clerk’s Office, or visit the Secretary of State website to determine your status.
