Chelmsford's Freeman Lake Closed, High Bacteria
Freeman Lake in Chelmsford was closed this week due to high levels of bacteria.

CHELMSFORD, MA —Well, it was good while it lasted: Freeman Lake in North Chelmsford at Adams Street, is closed —again — until further notice, per order of the Chelmsford Board of Health Office July 22.
The announcement comes after the water tests showed it had bacteria count above what is deemed safe for humans and pets. The lake had only recently been reopened after testing last week showed high bacteria.
The Beach will reopen upon acceptable test results, but with storms in the immediate forecast, it's not clear when that will be. Testing cannot be performed if it has rained within the previous 24 hours, according to the board of health.

In the past the bacteria levels have been attributed to geese, and officials have asked that the public not feed the fowl.
