Could Chelmsford's Largest Private Employer Be Moving?

Kronos enjoyed impressive growth in 2015 and is running out of room at its Chelmsford headquarters.

CHELMSFORD, MA - Kronos’ CEO said the company enjoyed a “fantastic year” in 2015, but might soon run out of space at its Billerica Road headquarters in Chelmsford.

Aron Ain told the Boston Business Journal that Kronos, a workforce management and software solutions company, that Kronos hired more than 1,000 people in 2015 and was looking to hire hundreds more in 2016, which could push the company to the bursting point at its 329,000-square-foot Chelmsford headquarters.

“We’re running out of space,” Ain told the BBJ. “We’re looking for more space and that will either come in the form of getting more space in Chelmsford or moving the whole company to a new location.”

Ain went on to say that he was committed to keeping Kronos in Massachusetts and, more specifically, in the Merrimack Valley. He said he is looking for space in the 400,000 to 425,000-square-foot range.

Kronos was named the No. 2 place to work among “largest companies” in The Boston Globe’s Top Places to Work in Massachusetts survey. It earned the No. 1 spot in 2014.

Kronos moved its headquarters to Chelmsford in 2000 and is the town’s largest private employer, according to the company’s website.
