Massive Lowell Fire Claims Child; Several People Rescued

LOWELL, MA — A 4-year-old girl was killed in a massive triple-decker home Thursday night.
Officials confirmed the girl's body was found. Other people, including children, were rescued from the burning building on Maude Street.
One person was brought to the hospital for treatment, while several others were treated at the scene. Fire Chief Paul Charron said that person is in stable condition.

At least 10 residents were displaced.
The fire department responded to the blaze about 2:40 p.m. and started to rescue people from the top floors. The flames burned for hours.

"I'm heartbroken, to be honest with you," Mayor Sokhary Chau said, according to The Lowell Sun. "We have lost many lives to fire in this area. … It’s very very sad and for a little girl, 4 years old, my heart breaks for the family and my prayers go out to the family and to all the people affected by the building as well."
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
