Six Chelmsford High Seniors Named Students Of The Month For October

The Chelmsford Rotary Cub has sponsored the Student of the Month program for over 30 years.

CHELMSFORD, MA — Six seniors at Chelmsford High School were named last week as the Lions Pride/Rotary Students of the Month for October.

The Chelmsford Rotary Club has sponsored the Student of the Month program for over 30 years. The winners, who were announced by CHS Principal Stephen Murray, were chosen for their achievements in and out of the classroom.

Hope Hebert: Herbert is a member of four national honor societies — English, French, Science and NHS. She also is part of the CHS Theatre Guild, where she has served as assistant student producer, head of props and chair of makeup.

Herbert also is the president and co-founder of the Women in STEM Club and a member of CHS Mentors, the American Sign Language (ASL) Club and Leaders in Motion.

Outside of CHS, Herbert has volunteered with the Chelmsford Public Library and the Town of Chelmsford Recycling Zero Waste Day.

Joseph Mitri: Mitri has earned induction into three national honor societies —NHS, World Language and English — and he serves as a board member for the English Honor Society.

Mitri is a linebacker and captain on the CHS football team and he was a standout wrestler last year. In fact, Mitri received the CHS Scholar-Athlete Award in both sports. Additionally, Mitri is a member of CHS Mentors and he was chosen to serve on the Dean's Council.

Notably, Mitri survived Hodgkin's lymphoma his freshman year, undergoing six months of chemotherapy, yet never missing school or practice.

Kaitlyn Kaminuma: Kaminuma is a member of four honor societies — NHS, English, Spanish and Tri-M Music. She was one of 14 recipients of the Junior College Book Awards, presented to juniors who display leadership, scholarship and loyalty to CHS.

Kaminuma currently is a member of the CHS Symphony Orchestra and is active in the pit orchestra for CHS Theatre Guild productions. Plus, Kaminuma has been selected to the All-State Ensemble by the MMEA and is currently the co-concertmaster and principal second violinist for the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Additionally, Kaminuma is the co-president of the Mindful Matters Club, a member of Freshman Mentors and LIME. Plus, she is a member of Continuo, a student-run orchestra in Greater Boston that offers student musicians opportunities and mentorship.

Remoré Serra: Serra is a member of the Spanish and English National Honor Societies. She is a two-time Merrimack Valley Conference and New England Region all-star in field hockey, who has committed to play at UMass. Serra also plays ice hockey and lacrosse.

Serra serves on the executive board of Freshman Mentors and she is involved in the Resiliency program. Serra's volunteer work includes: Chelmsford Food Pantry, Table of Plenty, youth hockey, youth ice hockey and the annual John Carson Road Race.

Jared Guerin: Guerin is a member of three honor societies — NHS, English and World Language. He is co-president of the Art Club and is on the executive board for CHS Mentors. Guerin also is a member of LIME and the Asian Student Organization, and he has participated in the CHS Leadership Conference.

Guerin has been an online business owner since 2017 and he volunteers with Chelmsford Youth Baseball.

Clara Wong: Wong was among the recipients of the Junior College Book Awards. She is the co-president of the Art Club and the Mindfulness Matters Club and she participates in Freshman Mentors, LIME and the Asian Student Organization.

Away from school, Wong has earned five volunteer service awards with the Tzu Chi Foundation, an international humanitarian organization, and she has worked at Kumon Math and Reading Center in Lowell.
