Concord PD Announces Halloween Crackdown on Seat Belt Violations

The Concord Police Department, in partnership with the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security's Highway Safety Division and more than 95 local police departments, will be mobilizing for a high-visibility Click It or Ticket campaign this Halloween. 

The crackdown runs from Oct. 18 through Nov. 1, according to a CPD press release, during which time officers will enforce the seat belt law around the clock. They'll be ticketing not only motorists, but also passengers found not wearing seat belts. 

"You will see us out in force during the October/Halloween campaign," said Inspector Kevin Monahan, the department's safety officer. "We will be showing zero tolerance for anyone who is not wearing a seat belt. Our simple goal is to save more lives." 

According to preliminary crash data, there were 37 fatalities and more than 275 people who suffered incapacitating injuries who were not wearing a seatbelt during October 2011 in Massachusetts. 

Around and during the Halloween holiday, when people will be transporting trick-or-treaters to and from party areas, it is especially important that everyone arrives safely and buckled up, the CPD press release said.  

“Whether you’re traveling across town or transporting party-goers to the next block, one of the best ways to ensure a safe arrival is to always buckle up” said Monahan. “Unfortunately, too many motorists still need a tough reminder that this quick, life saving measure protects them and their loved ones.  If necessary, we’ll remind them that they’re breaking the law by not wearing their seat belt which has serious consequences.”
