Dedham Square Artist Guild Exhibits Featured at State House
The Guild is a co-op with over 20 artists in Dedham Square.

Representative Paul McMurtry recently hosted staff and colleagues at the State House in his office for the opening of an art reception featuring the members of the Dedham Square Artist Guild. The Guild is a co-op with over 20 artists in Dedham Square.
The artwork ranged from blown glass, acrylics, photography, watercolor and pottery from artists who live and work in Dedham and Westwood. Dozens of legislators from across the Commonwealth came to enjoy the opening reception and listen to the artists talk about the inspiration behind their work.
“The creative and impressive artwork featured by Guild members compliments the historic character of the State House,” McMurtry continued, “art and history go hand in hand.”

Amongst the artist in attendance was photographer Kerry Hawkins of Dedham who displayed her photo, “Curl” which featured a macro-photo of a leaf from Bumpkin Island in the Boston Harbor. “I love visiting the Boston Harbor Islands and think we need to keep them beautiful. They are an important natural resource and something that makes our state unique,” she said.
Kevin Becker a glassblower from Westwood displayed a vase entitled “Beach Memories.” He described his process of adding beach sand during the blowing process to personalize his pieces. “They make for a very personal keepsake,” he explained, “it’s a unique way to take the sand you brought home from a special trip or your favorite beach and create something you’ll be proud to display.”
