DEDHAM, MA – The Dedham-Westwood Water District (DWWD), pursuant to Section 3-1(h) of the Dedham Home Rule Charter, announced Friday that there is a vacancy for Water Commissioner for a three-year term that will expire in January 2025.

The DWWD was created by An Act Establishing the Dedham-Westwood Water District, Chapter 193 of the Acts of 1985. A complete copy of the Act is available to anyone interested in this position.

The DWWD is comprised of six members: three of whom shall be inhabitants of and registered voters in the Town of Dedham and three of whom shall be inhabitants of and registered voters in the Town of Westwood. No such member shall hold any elective or appointive office, or be an employee of, either town.

The Water Commissioners are responsible for the public water supply system which serves the Towns of Dedham and Westwood. This consists of securing adequate and pure water supplies; financing and construction of all facilities, buildings, tanks, pipes; and any works necessary to ensure the collection, pumping, treatment and distribution of water for domestic purposes and fire protection.

The Water Commission establishes and collects rates for metered water services and for fire sprinkler lines and hydrants as necessary so as to maintain the financial stability of the Water System.

The DWWD generally meets on the second and last Tuesday evening of the month.

Any person who desires to be considered for appointment for this position must respond between February 28 and March 9. Interested persons shall file with the Select Board their name, a residential address, and a resume and/or statement which sets forth in clear and specific terms the qualifications they hold for the position.
