Next Generation of Marked Police Cruisers Arrive in Dedham

Police vehicles are not the same as personal vehicles, with components being enhanced in order to endure the stress that a police vehicle experiences due to constant run and/or idle times, according to a press release from Michael d’Entremont, Dedham's Chief of Police. Power also needs to be added to police vehicles for added equipment and emergency response needs. 

After examining police package vehicles available the Dedham Police Department decided on the Chevrolet Tahoe as its new marked patrol vehicle. 

This decision was based on several factors including:

• The Chevrolet Tahoe has been available in a police package for an extended period of time.  Several of the other police package vehicles are new to the market;
• The Tahoe is the only vehicle examined which has a full frame;
• The Tahoe provides ample space;
• The Tahoe has slightly better gas mileage than the Crown Victoria;
• The Tahoe is 13” shorter than the Crown Victoria; 
• The Tahoe is a rear wheel drive vehicle which should be more suited for the type of driving done by patrol vehicles in Dedham with lots of turning motions;
• The motor has an energy saver feature which powers down from 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders when power is not needed.

The first two Dedham Police Department Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicles arrived in town on Tuesday and they have new graphic markings for Dedham's patrol vehicles.
