Obituary: Henry E. Hanson

Henry E. Hanson, 87, of Easton, and formerly of East Bridgewater, died Aug. 28, at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Jocelyn Hanson. Born in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret Hanson. He was also the brother of the late Ruth, Raymond, Doris, and Robert.

Henry attended South Hadley High School and was a graduate of Bowdoin College. A World War II Navy veteran, Henry was a salesman for Hanson Printing Company for many years and was also active in Kiwanis.

In his retirement, he enjoyed a great love of reading, cribbage, hummingbirds, and most importantly his family. With his sharp wit and sharp mind, he loved doing crossword puzzles in his head and entertained his family with quotes from Charles Dickens and Emily Dickenson.

He is survived by his five children, Jeffrey Hanson and his wife Sharon of Bridgewater, Lesley Anderson and her husband Philip of West Bridgewater, Peter Hanson and his wife Diane of South Yarmouth, Martha Amara and her husband Douglas of Elmwood, and Jenny Williams and her husband David of West Bridgewater.

He was also the grandfather of Amy, Jeremy, Hadley, Alex, Kera, Nicholas, Samuel, Aaron, Andrew, Joshua, and Jocelyn. He was great-grandfather to Isabella, Hayden, Georgia, Avery, Sara, and Daniel.

Calling hours were held in the Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, Friday, Aug. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral home service is Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
