The Norton School Committee has requested a town meeting warrant article designed to allow them to fund repairs needed in the Henri A. Yelle gym floor.

According to committee members, a pipe underneath the gym floor burst and water damaged the wood in the floor.

“Steam and water does significant damage to wood,” school director of finance and operations Barry Nectow said. “We tried to dry it out, but it didn’t work.”

This is the second time Norton has needed to repair the gym floor in two years.

Mansfield Teen's Viral Video Gets the Attention of Ellen DeGeneres

A viral video of a Mansfield teen apparently has a fan in actress and daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. After seeing the video, DeGeneres invited local resident and Syracuse student Hannah Melton to appear on the April 18 edition of her talk show.

“I love Ellen and was thrilled to be on her show.” said Melton. “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m grateful to be part of it.”

Melton has become an Internet sensation after her mother took video of her under anesthesia from having her wisdom teeth removal. While recovering from the procedure, Melton was convinced that she was Hannah Montana.

Vice Principal Demoted Following School Lunch Scandal in Attleboro

Coelho Middle School's assistant principal has lost her title due to her alleged role in the school lunch scandal that gained national attention. Attleboro school district Superintendent Pia Durkin released a statement saying Susan Fortin was suspended five days without pay and will be reassigned as a teacher.

Attleboro made national headlines earlier this month when it was revealed 35 to 45 students who had insufficient funds in their accounts were denied lunch or forced to throw their food away. In response, district food contractor Whitsons fired four employees. Parents, including one who spoke at a recent school committee meeting, said Fortin made an announcement during lunch saying students with insufficient account balances would not receive meals.

“I have concluded that the Attleboro administrator, whose oversight of the lunchroom was her responsibility, did not question the decisions that the Whitsons staff made that day nor did she exercise good judgement on behalf of the students she was charged to care for,” wrote Durkin in a letter this week to parents.
