EASTON, MA — A Stonehill College junior is fighting for her life after being involved in a 'horrific' bike accident while in Spain, according to a GoFundMe campaign organized on behalf of her parents last week.

Lauren Rauseo, whose family is based in Londonderry, New Hampshire, suffered severe injuries to her head and body in the accident and is now in a medically-induced coma in serious but stable condition, the campaign said.

Though she is not yet able to be transferred to another facility due to the severity of her injuries, Rauseo's family said their hope is that when her condition improves, she will be able to be flown by medical helicopter to a hospital "closer to friends and family" back home in Boston.

"We are reaching out with heavy hearts and a plea for help," the campaign wrote, in part. "Alongside the emotional toll, [Rauseo's parents] are facing significant financial burdens."

The campaign continues: "The costs associated with Lauren’s medical care, including the intention to med flight her from Spain to Boston are staggering. Additionally, her parents are enduring expenses for accommodations near the hospital, meals and other incidentals that are associated with being away from home."

Organizers asked for donations for the Rauseo family, adding that they hope the community will share Lauren's story in order to rally around and support her and her family.

"Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference in Lauren’s fight for survival," organizers wrote. "Your generosity will help alleviate the financial burden on her family, allowing them to focus on what truly matters."

The fundraiser had raised $50,700 of its $150,000 goal as of Monday morning.
