Cape Cod Home Livable After Weekend Fire

A fire lingered in a Cape Cod home's chimney, but a quick response and observant neighbor likely saved the home from damage.

FALMOUTH, MA — A Falmouth home is still livable after a weekend fire was extinguished, officials said.

On Sunday around 9:30 p.m., crews responded to a fire on North Bourne's Pond Road after a "vigilant neighbor noticed flames and embers coming from the home's roof or chimney," officials said.

Upon arrival, firefighters found no visible fire from the exterior but discovered an active chimney fire inside. The homeowner had been using the fireplace prior to the call.

Fire personnel quickly extinguished the fire in the fireplace and chimney, thoroughly inspected the flue for any residual fire or blockages and ventilated the home to clear out the smoke.

Further investigation found no extension to the structure, and the homeowner could safely re-enter their home, which was deemed habitable.
