Cape Cod Man Charged With 4th OUI After Striking Utility Pole
Police K9s were used to locate the man after he fled the scene, which resulted in a local road being closed due to a downed utility pole.
SANDWICH, MA — A Sandwich man has been charged with his fourth operating under the influence offense after he crashed his car into a utility pole, police said.
Matthew Ferrill, 40, of Sandwich, is charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a car, leaving the scene of property damage, operating while on a suspended license and two counts of drug possession.
Around 1:47 a.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed into a utility pole on Great Hill Road. The calling party reported the operator — now identified as Ferrill — was attempting to leave on a dirt bike that he removed from a trailer attached to the vehicle, officials said.

Before the officer’s arrival, the Ferrill was reported to have left on foot.
Officers arrived on the scene and noticed the vehicle was unoccupied. A utility pole had broken at the base and was lying across the car, with wires lying across Great Hill Road.

Mashpee's Police K-9 responded to the scene and was able to locate Ferrill in the woods. During their investigation, it was determined that Ferrill was operating under the influence of alcohol
