Cape Cod Police Departments Don Pink Patches For Breast Cancer

CAPE COD, MA — Patches worn by police officers on Cape Cod will look a little different this month.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and many departments on Cape Cod are donning pink patches to mark the month. Additionally, some departments have the patches up for sale with proceeds going toward the cause.

Brewster police are selling the patches for $10 with proceeds going to to Cape Cod Healthcare’s Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center in Hyannis.

Wellfleet police also sell patches for $10 with proceeds going to Cape Cod Healthcare's Breast Cancer Reconstructive Surgery Fund through the Cape Cod Foundation. In Yarmouth, pink patches are being sold through the Pink Patch Project for $10.

Mashpee police will also be wearing pink patches, and officers will attend the Mashpee Farmers Market for the .5K race on Oct. 13. Tickets for the race are $20 and all proceeds benefit the Cape Cod Hospitals Women's Early Detection Fund.

Barnstable police don't have patches for sale this year, but residents may still see some officers sporting the patches.

"You may see some of our officers wearing our pink patch this year in solidarity with those battling this terrible disease," police said. "Stand with us by donating to a local cancer support charity, being kind to others, or lending a hand to those in need."

Provincetown officers will also be sporting patches for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and officials have also changed the blue accent lights around the station to pink for the month of October.
