Falmouth Fall Hydrant Flushing Begins This Week
Starting Monday, the maintenance process that helps the town's water supply will take place in the evenings. Here's what to know.
News release from Town of Falmouth.
FALMOUTH, MA — Fall Hydrant flushing will begin Monday, September 9th. Flushing is an essential maintenance function necessary to maintain water quality, improve the carrying capacity of pipes, and ensure the proper operation of distribution system components, such as hydrants and valves. Flushing activities will be conducted in the evening between the hours of 7:00 PM - 1:00 AM. Specific dates of streets and/or neighborhoods to be flushed will be provided on a weekly basis.
While conducting flushing operations in your neighborhood, you may experience discolored water or a small drop in water pressure. Should your water appear reddish, yellow or brown, do not be alarmed. It is recommended you do not use the water or do laundry for two hours after noticing this discoloration. After you have waited, run your cold water tap (without the aerator screen) for five to ten minutes. This should remove any sediment from inside your service.
