Contractors will conduct six soil marine borings using a drill rig on a jack-up barge. Each boring will be up to 6 inches in diameter and about 100 feet deep.

The jack-up barge will be visible from shore and drilling will make noise that is audible from the shore, particularly for the closest borings, officials said.

The onshore boring work in Kite Park will be visible and will make noise as well, but is expected to be completed within 2 days, officials said. The park area will be restored after completion.

This work is being done to collect soil data required for design of an outfall for the discharge of treated wastewater, officials said.
