Falmouth residents and residential taxpayers have the first crack at registering for this year's race. What to know.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth Road Race season is almost here, and locals now have a chance to register early for the race.

Falmouth residents and residential taxpayers have the first crack at registering for the race starting now through May 7. Race officials said locals will be guaranteed entry pending verification.

The race was founded in 1973 and has since become a destination for runners ranging from Olympians and elite athletes to recreational runners to take in the 7-mile seaside course.

“We are so thrilled to kick-off our registration process as we count down to race day this summer. We look forward to welcoming returning and new runners to Falmouth every year,” said Jennifer Edwards, executive director of Falmouth Road Race, Inc.

“It’s always wonderful to see the excitement that runners, whether local, from across the nation or around the globe have for our event. We’re grateful to have such strong support from the town and we’re looking forward to welcoming over 1,000 more participants this year as we expand our field size from 10,000 to 11,400.”

General registration for non-Falmouth residents will be open from May 8 to May 17.

The selection process for non-residents is done at random, and registrants can create a team of up to 15 people for registration only. This way the team is selected, or not, as a whole.

Those looking to register can visit the event’s website.

Falmouth Road Race, Inc. also offers the opportunity to join a charity team through its Numbers for Nonprofits program, where runners are guaranteed an entry while raising money for a cause.

The Numbers for Nonprofits program is presented in partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, who have been participating in the program for 22 years. This program has helped raise over $63.7 million for Massachusetts-based charity organizations since 2000, which includes a record-breaking $7.2 million raised at the 2023 event.

Charity teams and team captain contact information can be found on the Falmouth Road Race website under the Run for a Charity Team page.

Race weekend also features a variety of other events.

The invitational Falmouth Track Festival takes place the Friday of race weekend and will welcome high school and elite milers to compete. The following day, the SBLI Family Fun Run will host kids ages 2-12 to compete in their own races.

The Health & Fitness Expo will be taking place throughout the weekend, welcoming over 20,000 visitors to browse the various booths featuring the latest in running, fitness and uniquely Cape Cod items.
